Do you have the Dutch or American nationality and do you want to stay in Curaçao longer than 6 months OR are you going to work in Curaçao? You must then be in possession of a Declaration by law (VRW) or at least the "proof of submission application VRW".
There are several purposes by which the VRW application can be submitted to the Immigration office; employee, remote worker, student, trainee, director, retirement or “Penshonado” (a person who owns real estate and wants to make use of the so-called "penshonado arrangement", a fiscally attractive construction). Once you receive the "proof of VRW application submission" you may already be on Curaçao and await the granting or denial of the decision (VRW) on the island. Also, with the proof of submission application VRW, you may enter the work floor if you have at least applied for the VRW application for the correct purpose.
Which permit applies to you depends on the purpose for which you wish to come to Curaçao. There are many possibilities and exceptions to submitting a permit the right way, for the right purpose and with the right documents. This again depends on your personal situation. Are you coming alone, do you have a partner, spouse, children? This all plays a role for applying for the right permit and submitting the right documents.
On the Internet you will find different and unfortunately often incorrect information about permits and the procedures to follow. This is because policies, laws and regulations in Curaçao are constantly changing. Much of the information on the internet is therefore incomplete or does not apply to you. It also happens that people simply do not know exactly what the correct procedures are. Because we have direct contact with the various ministries, their policy officers and lawyers on a daily basis, we are always aware of the latest applicable laws, regulations and policies or changes.
